Need Help on where to get started

I'll keep this short. MY friend is studying Pharmacy at the University of Toronto. He and I plan on opening a pharmacy here in Montreal Quebec when he graduates. I have a Bachelors in Pure and Applied Mathematics but as I plan on just being the owner. However I would like to educate myself on Pharmacy as much as I can.

Our plans to open a pharmacy are years away, it might not even happen. Nonetheless, if it does, I want to have someone of an education on it.

Where do I start? I want to educate myself on Quebec Pharmacy. I love reading and learning. What would you say is the first book to get? Thanks in advance !!

Are you trying to learn about the business aspect of pharmacy or the clinical/science side of it?

If you want to learn more about the business side of it (assuming that its an independent that you're opening up with your friend) I would recommend that you get in touch with NCPA and check out the many things that they offer (workshop, recommendations, business plans, etc...) They're really independent-friendly and are a great resource. Independent pharmacy isn't the field that I'm going into so I only have general knowledge about it.

But since you are going into pharmacy, it is highly regulated, so get to know the pharmacy laws of your country and area. And of course since you're going into business, look into small business loans, bank loans, picking out the location, advertising, etc...

Also look into the pharmacy market in Montreal and see if its viable for you to open up a pharmacy there. In the United States independents cannot really compete with chains on price so many find a niche and become really good at it.

So I don't really have a lot of good information, but I can say that if you are serious about opening up a pharmacy, get to know the market and do your homework. NCPA is a great organization and if I was thinking about opening up an independent I would definitely check them out.
