Hi....
I am dentist from India looking forward to take my Part 1 in Feb 2010.
I have some queries regarding new pattern and also regarding application for residency program.

1.)I came to know that there might be pass or fail for nbde and also that they are combining both nbde -1 & 2 into one exam. Is it applicable from 2010 or from 2012?

2.)If I give my part 1 in Feb 2010 is it possible for me to apply to the residency programs starting in 2010?

I'm really in need of your valuable suggestions...plz help regarding...
thanks in advance...tc

1) i'm not quite sure about what you're talking about in terms sof pass/ fail.. that's kinda always been there. 75 is considered pass. the new rule from this year onwards is that once you have written your exam you cannot write it again if you have passed. i.e. you only get one attempt.. your first score is your best score.

havent heard anything about combining part 1 and part 2.. must be a rumour?

2) Residency??? You need to be a qualified dentist before you can practice or do a senior residency in the US.. as far as i'm aware you would need to get your dds before moving onto that.. i mean i think ther are very few seats who would take in an international dentist without the dds qualification.. might wanna reassess your goals? anyone please correct me if i'm wrong here

hi,

you are right about part 1 being one attempt if you pass.
Never heard of anything like combining of part1 and part 2..

actually, you can apply for MS courses in the US with ur Indian degree. Residencies may be tough to get in but I have heard of people getting into the MS even without their part1.
But, giving your part 1 in feb may be too late for 2010 PASS applications.
Its highly unlikely that they'll take in an FTD without any US experience.

Go to www.adea.org go to the pass website from there and do a PASS SEARCH.
you can search from a list of programmes there.
OMFS / ORTHo..really tough to get in because u need PASS and MATCH.
I've not heard of anyone from India gettin in with BDS alone.

If you have some US work-ex you may get into prostho/endo..
I recommend you consider the 2 year AEGD..helps in licence as well.

I think you are confused between the residency and the MS.
Residency will give you a certificate only. for an MS you'll need one year extra(maybe more) and a thesis (plus the fees).
certificate courses are not recognised by DCI, so you cant do an 2 year endo residency in NY and come back to India and be an endo-dontist.
MS courses (most of them) are recognised by the DCI
Check the DCI website for details.

DDS/DMD are really good courses and help you improve your skills. that should be your overall aim if you plan to practice in the US.

whats ur GPA and Toefl like?
