Hey guys I am an osteopathic student applying for MD Internal Medicine positions. I have good USMLE scores: Step I (230) Step II (246) and passed Step 2 CS. Unfortunately, not so good for COMLEX Step 2 PE, failed the humanistic portion and had to retake it (and hopefully passed it this time). COMLEX step 1 of 612 and Step 2 CE of 640.

Although I still have 2 months left for allopathic applications, I was wondering if I should bother to report my comlex scores in my application. I have heard that we are not technically required to report our comlex if we dont want to. At the same time, I am thinking if it would look bad on the application. Will the residency programs start to wonder why she's not reporting her comlex scores? Also, what if they ask during the interview about comlex scores?Thank you guys any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated....

I've heard that if you have strong USMLE, comlex does not really even factor in for the allo programs but I can't say with any certainty

From the PDs I have spoken with, most don't know how to interpret the comlex, so if you have USMLE they will be more than happy to take that.

Just try. If it's a problem they will let you know by not granting an interview. Good thing is applying to residency is WAAAAY cheaper than applying to medical school.

haha thanks ShyRem. You mean just try without showing comlex results or with the comlex results?

If the rules don't state you must release comlex, then don't. But read the rules carefully. If it comes out that you broke the rules, your spot could be taken away and you could be blackballed from any further match positions.

Personally, I would release all in favor of full disclosure. But I am horribly ethical that way. And plenty of PDs like full disclosure and will not even pay attention to the comlex score.

Ok just read the PDF file. Doesn't looks like you need to report your comlex scores. Give your USMLEs were good and you are not applying aoa (and I assume you aren't applying in one of the five states that mandate an aoa program or at least an aoa TRI), I wouldn't release my comlex. If you are in one of the states that mandate an osteo TRI, then you might be in a little bit of a pickle.

even if the OP is in one of those states, can't they just apply for res.42 and get their program approved under the aoa

Well I am doing an audition at a place in one of those five states and they do resolution 42. Do you think they would like to see my comlex before ranking me in the match? Thanks...

If it wasn't expressly stated that you had to release COMLEX scores to get an interview, don't. Most ACGME program directors don't really care about your COMLEX score except to know that you passed and are eligible for graduation from your school. My advice is that If they ask at the interview, advise them you passed COMLEX (bring a copy of your passing scores with you to the interview) and formally release the scores after the interview.

For an ACGME program, the TRI/Resolution 42 thing is irrelevant (to them). AFAIK IM residents usually have no issues getting the exemption.

If you're a DO, I think they'd be able to figure out that it's a given that you took the COMLEX and then they might wonder why you didn't report the score.

Now, reporting poor USMLE scores to AOA programs on the other hand.....
