Specifically referencing passage 8 of the second question pack. This flaw is exactly what happens in 99% of the questions I get wrong. Need some advice from you CARS gods. Here is an example of my thinking:
44) The author apparently considers a theory of education that "has little to do with the learner":
Correct Answer: Generally accepted but ineffective
My reasoning for why I thought this was incorrect straight from the passage: "Developmentally appropriate instruction, which parents are likely to judge as the more reasonable approach, appears to be hard to sell to the decision makers concerned with uniformity" So I took this as not being generally accepted since parents prefer a different method, and are a massive aspect of the education system.
Answer I chose: "practical but unethical"
Answer explanation: The author does imply the unethical aspect of the current approach, but does not view the theory as practical since is has little to do with the learner.
So, I see the logic, but I thought that uniformity was a hint at the current systems practicality, hence why admin doesn't want to change it (obviously my logic here is incorrect since I got the question wrong). I can totally see how this answer is correct, still having trouble understanding why my answer was wrong for the following reason:
Two question later the explanation to the correct answer of #46 (which I got correct) completely contradicts #44.
Q: "Admin are relatively reluctant to institute developmentally appropriate instruction because":
A: "it is individualized and therefore involves an inconvenient process of changing traditional methods"
Explanation: "this statement implies that uniformity is more convenient than an individualized approach, with the added benefit of "higher percentages on standardized tests"
I must be living on a different planet because that explanation sure sounds like the definition of practicality to me (convenient, AND increased standardized scores).
ANY INPUT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. I keep running into the same problem. I totally grasped the main point of this passage, but I always seem to almost take to much of what the author is saying to in-depth thought. Clearly in need of some guidance! I feel like I'm so close to getting over this cars hump but cant seem to break it.
