Hey everybody...

I really need help with interviewing skills. I have only had one and have 2 comming up. My only problem is that I have no idea what to ask when they ask me if I have any questions.... Please help! thanks!! 🙂

how can you not have an idea? just ask them anything you want to know(within reason). do u have any questions about the school? about the curriculum? about their specialty?

what sort of questions did you have in mind?

there really are no right or wrong questions to ask them. just make sure they are appropriate.

I strongly agree with UCLA man's last point. Asking them about their specialty is a great idea. For the most part they are very interested in and proud of what they do and it is a good way to get the interview into a conversational format if it is not already there. It may leave that good last immpression that gets you in. Good luck!

I always look around their office for anything interesting. Sometimes I start of with asking whether they like working at the X school. What brough them to the city. Why they chose their specialty.

I have noticed that people like talking about themselves and all of a sudden the conversation is more easy going. I had interviewers really open up and tell me about their families and their personal history. Try it. I have noticed that it is never a bad idea to be interested in your interviewer. However I must say that I had one interviewer that would not shut up. She kept talking and talking and it was not during the "Do you have any questions for me" part of the interview. It was a tough call but I figured let her talk. If I interrupted her and tried to tell her about myself, she probably would have thought I was the rudest person in the world. I hope that I made the right call maybe she wanted me to say "Excuse me, I think I am the one who is suppose to be talking here!!!"

But Good luck I hope that you will go wonderfully.

Ask anything and everything and keep asking until they stop you. I'd suggest asking about your interviewer's research, how they got ino it, if they like living in that area, if they feel the school is a supportive/non-competitve environment. I had one very good interviewer who kept asking me if I had questions, she had talked a lot about her own family, so I started asking how she had balanced family and work, how she had ended up at that particular school, where her kids ended up, etc. My interview lasted much longer than necessary and was just a great experience. I would suggest asking personal things like that if you feel comfortable with your interviewer, it shows you're interested in life and not just how well a school does on match lists.
