I know this topic has been beaten down, but I was hoping you all would be able to provide some quick feedback. I have a friend applying this cycle (illinois resident), and she has yet to take the DAT.

I was helping her make a list of schools to apply to, and I used some documents found here on SDN to come up with a large list of schools she could apply to. Can you guys look at this list and tell me which schools are not out of state friendly? And if I missed any schools that are out of state friendly. Thanks so much!

1. UIC (illinois resident)
2. Temple
3. Tufts
4. Boston U
5. Creighton
6. Louisville
7. Pittsburgh
8. Case Western
9. Kentucky
10. Michigan
12. Marquette
13. Indiana
14. Detroit Mercy
15. UPenn
16. Uconn
17. SIU (illinois resident)
18. Western U
19. Nebraska
20. University of New England
21. Missouri School of Dentistry
22. Arizona
23. LECOM
24. Minnesota

Nova is OOS friendly as well. It's pretty expensive, but it will give you lots of clinical experience. FWIW, applying to that many schools is going to get pretty pricey. If she could buy the adea guide book... 2017-2018 ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools : American Dental Education Association and compare her stats to the averages of some of the schools on her list, it would help to save lots of money. I applied to 15 schools and looking back, I think it was too many. Obviously it depends on stats. If you have below average stats, applying to a lot of schools is what you need to do. Good luck to her!

I think 40% OOS is pretty friendly for a state, non-private school. If you have a different definition, feel free to share.
Eh maybe not. I had it as 36% and I didn't consider that very OOS friendly but people have different opinions. Of all OOS students that applied, 11.2% were interviewed and 2% were accepted. That's the main reason I didn't think it was OOS friendly. You also have to take into consideration that a large majority of the OOS Colorado students are from the WICHE states, not equally distributed throughout the country.

There are also roughly 10x as many OOS applicants as there are IS so of course those percentages are going to be low. They could accept 100% OOS and still only have an OOS acceptance rate of like 6%. Be careful of which percentages and statistics you are using. Also, 36% vs 40% for a class is only like a 2-3 student difference. Maybe they were off on the year you are looking at, but I know for a fact they strive to have 40% OOS, which I would consider OOS friendly. And yes, WICHE plays a role, but that's true for almost any western state-school. We have students from all over the place that aren't WICHE, so you shouldn't rule it out. Florida, Oklahoma, Michigan, etc. I am an OOS, non-WICHE as well.

Lol there's nothing for me to rule out, I'm at a different school. I just don't really consider Colorado to be OOS friendly, that's all.

A large percentage of those OOS seats (25 of the 40%?) goes to WICHE applicants (applicants who don't have a dental school in their state). For OP's friend, Colorado would be OOS unfriendly. Oh, and they have a small class size in the first place, ~80 spots.
