I live in a small rural area, 2nd smallest in CA. We have a local Jr College that I am getting my pre-req's for med school, and the closest Univ is 1.5 hours drive. Driving is not an option due to my family, volunteer, and work responsibilities. I already have a Mater's Degree and am a practicing Medical Social Worker. I have only taken Intro to Bio 6 month course and Intro to Chem 6 month course, both with labs, and I need all the rest. My college counselor advised me to take classes that the Jr College doesn't even offer; Intro to Bio,(ok, they've got that one) Intro to Botany (Don't have), and Intro to Zoology (& Don't have).
1) I need some help in advising me of how to proceed. Would anyone out there be willing to talk in-depth and to help me plan my next two years of study? I need advisement on how to get around some of the BS, bearing in mind the limited class availability at my local Jr College. I can't trust the advisors here.
2) I'd like to avoid taking any more Math, only b/c it would take an additional year of pre-req's for the needed course, and I'm already 37 so time is of the essence. Algebra II was my last math course taken 10 years ago. I'm not afraid of Math but just want to avoid the extra year so I'll forego taking Calc to save myself a year. The Jr College requires a higher math for the Physics course, and I'd like to avoid that. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?
3) Does it matter these courses will be taken at a JC and not a University? I've already demonstrated a 4.0 in my Grad School GPA, shouldn't that count for something?.
Thanks for the help!
