Hi, I guess I'm new to the forums, but I didn't really know where else to turn to. Some background: I shadowed a doctor this past spring semester, and at the end of the semester (which was several weeks ago), I asked him for a letter of recommendation. He said he would be glad to write me one.
As of today, he just emailed me telling me to write my own, and he will "amend as needed, sign, put the letter on letterhead and send a copy to my school". The letter is due in 19 days to my school.
I guess I have a few questions: I already have 5 other letters of recommendations (3 science/lab faculty, 1 volunteer, 1 non-science faculty), not including the committee process/letter that my school does. Is it worth the time/effort into writing this one from the doctor myself?
Also, I have absolutely no idea where to begin writing -- what would I say? What would I emphasize? What do doctors typically say about their shadowees? I'm really lost and confused and bewildered. If anyone could please help me out here, I would really appreciate it.
