Writing about failures in rec letter?

Hi, I'm writing a draft rec letter for one of my professors. In his class, I got a 62 on the first test and worse on the first assignment but clutched up and got an A in the class. I wanted to highlight how I persevered and did very well in the class despite bombing the first test + assignment.

Is this a good idea or should I just leave that part out? Thanks!!
