Need help with very low stats

I already applied to a handful of D.O. schools but I'm now trying to choose ~14 M.D. schools to submit my AMCAS to since I got the fee waiver.

Should I hold any hopes of getting in anywhere? I'm having a really hard time choosing OOS schools (CA resident) that have a number range encompassing mine. Appreciate any advice 👍

I think OP is URM. Those numbers are not that bad and I would even say shoot for some top tiers.

Their class is mostly 6 year BS / MD students.

Some schools that are OOS friendly include:

St. Louis U
Temple
Georgetown
U Vermont
Loyola
Creighton
VCU
EVMS

You should get a MSAR if you don't already have one. Check out median MCAT scores and percentage of OOS applicants that were interviewed and accepted.

My bad, I applied to 15 DO schools so I should be set in that regard. And thanks, I must have overlooked UNM, took it off my list 👍

Really? So UMKC is a no go? I have an MSAR, wittled down the list I posted above from schools I found that are as OOS friendly as possible and still encompass my numbers within their 10-90th percentiles. Thanks for your list, I'll go back and double check on those. I remember skipping over a couple just based on them having too high of numbers for me though.

REALLY?? i knew that URM status allowed for lower stats but I didnt think the gap was that big? so you mean to tell me if you have a 27-30 mcat and > 3.4 sgpa your chances are reasonable to MD schools???

^^Yes the gap can be big. For instance, an AA friend from undergrad got an interview and acceptance at every school in TX (except Baylor--he didn't apply)...his MCAT score was a 27. He's going to UTSW with a 'pretty good scholarship' as he puts it.

UMKC does have some spots for traditional MD students. Here is a quote from their website.

School of Medicine (M.D. Only Program) : While the UMKC School of Medicine is designed primarily for high school seniors who are entering college, a limited number of positions may become available each year for M.D.-only students.
These students enter the School and begin their curriculum in the second semester of Year 2 of the program. The application deadline for this program is Aug. 1 of the preceding year.


Their primary application isn't through AMCAS. So you would need to do the primary app on their website if you want to apply for the MD only program.


I didn't compare the schools I listed to your stats very carefully. They were just some OOS friendlies that came to mind.

No problem, your mini-list really helped regardless of that. Submitted the app to 15 schools yesterday (day before yesterday now) and added a handful of the ones you recommended. Thanks 👍
