Need help writing a LOR

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi guys, After shadowing my dentist for nearly 100 hours, I've asked him to write me a LOR. He told me that I could write one for myself and he would sign it. I am wondering if you guys could provide me with a template, or even better, provide me with an actual example of one. I would be very thankful! Also, I am afraid that the reader of my LOR might be able to detect the same meter and rhythm from this LOR and my personal statement. How should I approach this possible problem?

That is extremely unethical of you to do.

Make sure to change your reference letter to third person narration rather than first person.

Sounds like you need someone to write it for you rather than help.

How is this extremely unethical? I have zero experience with regards to writing a LOR and I have never read one either because I have waived my rights for every single one that I have. I am only asking for guidelines or examples so I can have an idea of what a good one looks like. I did not ask for one so that I can just directly copy and paste...

If you think it's absolutely fine, then I suppose you'd be OK with admitting to an admissions committee that you wrote your own reference letter? I didn't think so.

Whoa, you didn't have to be so rude with your posts. I had asked this forum earlier in the year about the same predicament and the general consensus had told me that it was fine and even normal. Refer to this thread that I made: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=832727 In this thread, I am just following up that thread and asking for some help or tips.

I don't think the OP understood which part was unethical. My face as I realize this:

... don't write your own letter. I've never even heard of this, nor did I think someone would actually consider doing so. The point of a letter of reference/recommendation is for the adcom to get a professional's view of your character and abilities. Your asking for advice on writing your own LOR does not reflect well (understatement) on your character.

So this entire thread: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=832727 , which I made when I had first encountered the problem, should be completely voided. I am getting completely inconsistent replies. When I had first asked the community about this situation, the general consensus had said that it was normal and completely fine. Now, a few months later, all of a sudden I am considered extremely unethical for asking the exact same question...

Tell me, are you going to openly acknowledge to the adcom that the dentist didn't actually write the letter?

I used to steal candy when I was a kid when no one is looking; it doesn't make it ethical, just because I wasn't caught. The difference between our situations is that I knew stealing was wrong.

You're probably going to end up writing your own letter, anyway, but in case you find it within your conscience to get in based on your own merit, then kindly request that your dentist draft a letter on your behalf.

WHOA WHOA WHOOOOA.

...Lois this is not my batman glass. Anyways.

I think we all know that stealing candy is MUCH more serious than authoring a narcissistic opus for yourself and presenting it as an extrinsic appraisal. Obviously.
