I suck at math, someone please save me.

Let's say in a solution, the proportion of A/HA is 1/10.

(A/HA)=1/10

So I can see that there is 10 times more HA than A. But then if the question is "What percentage of the solution is A?" then I get confused because the answer is obviously not 10%, since 10 is not 10 times smaller than 90.

The answer is basically 9% since 9 IS ten times smaller than 91. But how do you set this up mathematically to get x=9?

Thank you in advance math nerds. Much love.👍

I am not a math guru. but hope this helps. since ratio of A to HA is 1 to 10. therefore total is 1+10=11. 1/11 is .09, 10/11 is .91

% = part/total

A/HA = 1/10, therefore A = 1, and HA = 10 right...

So % = 1/(10+1)

%= 1/11 ~~9%. really 9.090909

Thanks guys - great help. Sometimes I really love SDN - where else are you going to find people who are smart AND neurotic enough to be helping others online at midnight 🙂 Cheers guys.
