Hi guys, I think I should start thinking about what I am going to do if i dont get in anywhere...which mostly likely i think is going to happen 🙁 It looks like DAT is the major issue in my case...my cGPA is 3.3 which is still below average but I dont think that is holding me back. So I have 3 options...

1) do 2 yr masters and retake DAT
2) do 1 yr postbach and retake DAT
3) work full time in dental field and retake DAT

I am really confused on which path to go on....which one would you guys recommend?? (look @ my predents profile) Thank you so much and all opinions are appreciated 👍👍 Congrats to all of you who got in🙂 and goodluck to rest :luck:

Your gpa isn't bad, but it can still improve...I'd say screw the post-bac or masters and just take some upper level science classes like histology, immunology, etc. and ace them. I think if you do that and do well when u retake the DAT you should be fine. Just make sure to continue to do some dental related stuff (shadowing....or assissting would be better) to tweak up your app. I see youre waitlisted at some schools...I'm sure youll get in and you wont have to do any of this stuff!

I agree with blackjack. What I would do is pick your top 3-5 schools and talk to their admissions directly and see what they would suggest just to be on the safe side. I would almost think that doing some work that is dental related would be very beneficial like you mentioned. In my interviews they liked to talk about my experiences in the dental field. It would also be more enjoyable than taking more college classes.

My opinion is completely different from what these 2 guys have said.
Your GPA and your DAT is under average... and they are the first 2 things adcoms look at. So my suggestion is for you to improve on those 2 really important parts of your application. Its good if you have more shadowing/assistint experience... but I see you already have some. So just work on your GPA, post-bach is the path I would take. Take as many classes as you can so you can really boost that GPA up. 😛
Good luck 😛

yea m taking 5 science classes this spring term - all upper level and 2 more in summer term then i graduate. so i still have chance to improve my gpa. yea i would just love to work full time for 1 yr after i get my bachelors and retake DAT but it is so hard to find a job in dental clinic w/o any dental related degree.

its weird they put me on waitlist w/o interview...so i doubt it

take upper levels and concentrate on your TS score.

👍

call the adm. dean of the schools you are really serious about and ask them. I believe many are very concise to what you need to improve on. Do exactly as they suggest and you'll most likely be the first that they interview next year.

Certainly, you'll hear that you will need to retake the dat. So for the time being, study your arse off.

upper levels and TS score seems to be pretty important to some school. 👍👍

And to me!

Hey guys, I have same problem. GPA 3.34, DAT Total 21 TS 23 P- 17.
I might have to repeat a year (apply 2nd time) Anybody got any other advice besides taking high lvl bio classes. thanks

If you don't have a lot of experience working for a dentist and 3.3 is your science gpa then I suggest taking a year off to work for a dentist and retake your DAT. But if you have a lot of experience then I suggest you take a year off to do postbacc and retake ur DAT but make sure you get like all A's in your postbacc classes.

You have very strong DAT scores. Just work on boosting your GPA. An extra year of As should do the trick. No need to retake the DAT.
