Hello,

So I just took the DAT, and here are my scores.
PAT 20
QR 15
RC 22
BIO 20
GC 23
OC 21
TS 21
AA 20

I think I did my best on that exam, it was just that I got an EXTREMELY hard math section!
It was like the math gods conspired against me and gave me all the longest, hardest and most difficult word problems in Math destroyer, DAT destroyer math section and achiever COMBINED 👎. About 3/4 of that section was soo complex, which is doable, but not with that time!

Anyways, my cGPA is 3.47 and sGPA is 3.34.

So I guess this thread is more of an inquiry as to which schools have cutoffs and what, and your opinions on me retaking. I am leaning towards a retake, but that would make my application late. How would that work? Is there anywhere in the application where I can state that I am considering a retake? Am I gonna be fine?:bang::bang:

Thanks, y'all.

From my understanding, QR is the least important section of the DAT as viewed by adcoms. Nevertheless, some schools do have cutoffs for each section at 17 (Don't know them off the top of my head, but they'll probably be listed in the 2013 ADEA guide). Apply smart and you most likely won't need to retake it.

Can anyone else chime in?
I'd really like to have more opinion on this. I don't think sleep will come very easy for me for a few nights because of this 🙁

Hey, Aetherius! I'll help as much as I can.

Ugh, that stinks big time on the QR. MedDevil is completely right that most schools seem to not care about it. However, there are some schools that have "cutoffs," although I'm not sure which schools those are.

Besides the math, though, all of your other scores are great, and your GPA is right there with the average of accepted students.

Here's what I do. I'd e-mail every school I planned on applying to, give them your scores and GPA, and ask if they suggested a retake. People seem to get pretty good responses from these sorts of things. And then, once you've gathered all of that info, you'll have to make a decision. If any of the schools suggest a retake, you'll have to decide if they're worth applying to.

We can't give you any definitive answers on here, as we can only speculate. However, the actual adcoms can tell you the facts! 🙂

Best of luck to you!

Sorry to hear!
Ditto MedDevil on checking out the 2013 ADEA guide (http://www.adea.org/publications/Pages/OfficialGuide.aspx) -- its $10 for the online copy. They do list the required minimum DAT scores, which could give you a better idea on where to apply.
Based on that, you could email schools to see if a retake is encouraged. You'll be entering a Future DAT date in your application, so I assume you could still go ahead a submit that. Schools would be aware you are planning to retake. I honestly don't know how that works on the schools' end... Contacting them directly would probably be more reassuring. GL!!

I can't say what's typical but I got accepted with a QR of 15 and my AA was a 19...so it IS possible. I wouldn't be too worried. Like others have said, find out what each school suggests. You may find that many of them say not to worry about your QR and that the rest looks great. 😉
