Hey everyone!!

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the following:

I need to take some pre-reqs for vet school, about 30 credits. So, basically the hard core science classes. I enjoy science, and I am much more mature and dedicated to schooling at age 27 than I was when I actually went to school. I don't think the good grades will be a problem.

My undergrad GPA was 3.2. Of what science I have have had it is 3.4.

Anyways, my choice of school would be Kansas State.

I am thinking I really like Manhattan and would like to move there to do my pre-reqs on campus and work part time.

What are my chances if I do the pre-reqs there, & do well in them, of getting accepted in a year or two to the vet program?

Anyone else done this and had good luck??

I just feel like if I am willing to move and prove myself at this age, and do it at that school, that will be looked upon as dedication and I will stand a better chance....

Thanks everyone for your input!!!

Being enrolled at a school that has a vet school has very little influence in the admissions process.

There's other ways to increase your chances. Are you a KS Resident? Making the school your IS could help. Say you make a connection at the school through a job or research position and get a strong LOR from a faculty member. That could also help. But there's no guarantee that that will happen. And while you need to make good grades, you can do that at any university. You don't have to pick up and move to another state SOLELY for that purpose. Work on vet experience too. These things will be considered in your app.

Agree to all of the above. If you really want to go to Kansas State, in-state alone would help - according to the latest admissions statistics I could find, about half of in-state interviewed students got accepted compared to a fifth of interviewed out-of-state students. However, be careful about moving into a state to get residency while earning pre-reqs, as it may not work. For Oklahoma, if you move into the state as an adult, you need to have lived/worked in-state for a year without attending college to get in-state status.

Also, keep in mind that in-state status alone won't matter without enough veterinary experience to convince the school that you know what this field involves and that you really want this career. I'd focus more on getting veterinary experience right now.
