Hey all,

I'm wanting to apply to LSU New Orleans for pt school (as an OOS student) and they require two math classes. I took one math class my freshman year of undergrad and stopped there because that was the only requirement for my major. Now I'm a little stuck, because I really want to apply to LSU but that would require me to sign up for calculus :scared: Would it be worth it to bite the bullet and take calculus after a 3 year math hiatus with no guarantee of even being granted an interview at LSU? Opinions are appreciated!

Hi,

If you have a strong desire to go to LSU then you should take the class. Its only one class. Although it may be required you wouldn't have to get an A in it. You will just have to work a little harder and maybe get some tutoring if you really want LSU. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'm just a little nervous because LSU only accepts a few out of state students so if I don't get in it's almost a waste of time, effort and ulcers lol.

You need calc to go there? Wtf are you sure about that? I stopped after trig and LSUhsc only asked for that.

they need 2 math classes and ive taken precalc so next up would be calculus. I don't think I can take a class lower than precalc because that's what I initially started out with freshman year.

If you really want to go there, then yes, take it. I took it when I was 21 and got a B+. It's not the most difficult class. It will actually be a nice break from your science classes, since there is little information to learn or read. You just need to be able to apply some concepts

I recommend getting a workbook or the DVD at mathtutordvd.com. You could spend more and get a personal tutor. Deleware also requires calculus. I think it's designed to reduce the number of applicants. Most pre-PT students have never taken calculus.

Brush up your skills at www.khanacademy.org. This is a free website with a TON of lectures on different areas of mathematics (among many other subjects) to go way below and way above calculus. It's all free and the guy who creates the videos is a wonderful instructor who will make it all very clear to you.

Thank you everyone for your responses! I think I will go ahead and go for it 👍
