Hey guys. So I just got approved for the FAP waiver and so I need to narrow/add to my school list ASAP.

In terms of my stats, I am a CA resident; I graduated with a biochem degree with a cGPA 3.88 and sGPA 3.9+ at a CSU. I have over 1000 plus hours of research for two different labs and worked as a calculus tutor for my university throughout college. I was also the treasurer of my prepharm club. In terms of shadowing and volunteering, I volunteered at a local elementary school as a tutor for roughly 300+ hrs. For shadowing, I've shadowed 3 different dentists for roughly 110 hours (hope to get this up). I have 3 letters of rec: 1 from a dentist and 2 from my PI's/former science professors.

My dat scores were: 22 AA, 21 TS, 25 PAT, 20 RC, 24 GC, 23 OC, 19 Bio
The schools I am considering are:

UCSF, UCLA, UOP, USC, Western, Uni. of Colorado, Oregon H&S uni., Washington Uni., UPenn, Pitt? and NYU.

What do you guys think about these school choices (trying to minimize to 10 total schools)? Do you guys have any recommendations on other schools? I am also looking to add some safety schools.

I am relatively new to dentistry so am looking for a school where I can explore all aspects of dentistry to hopefully find my true calling. Thanks for all your help guys!

You're looking to make the most of you applications right? Well, I was in the same position with the FAP waiver and all last year. Cross NYU, Colorado, Washington, Oregon off your list. Your stats are solid. Apply smarter not harder. Apply to UConn because you get in-state after one year (cheaper than full in-state at even UCSF for 4 years), have no preference for in-state/OOS applicants, they love more than anything to look at the science aspect of your application, and they're P/F with no ranking. Pitt, Penn and the California schools are fine. But with the room of the schools I said to not apply to and the one I said to apply to, apply to some private schools as back ups. Columbia comes to mind.

DON'T FORGET TO APPLY FOR SUPPLEMENTARY APPLICATION FEE WAIVERS. Doing so, I managed to only pay 1 supplemental fee out of the 18 or so schools I applied to.

Columbia definitely. Although I have a feeling you'll wind up at a UC. Nice stats. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice Kittenz! How do you apply to supplementals? For Uconn and Columbia they require 3 LOR from science based professors which I don't have 🙁 so yea I can't really apply to those schools

How many letters do you have? I had 2 from science based professors when I applied, 1 from my biology advisor, and 1 from a dentist. I would contact UConn and Columbia directly since I got into both of those schools with my letters last cycle. They may not be strict on it.

Ooo sounds good! Btw how did you get fee waiver for supplements?

A side question---for schools like these that want 3 science prof letters, do you email the 3rd to them or how did you end up uploading all of your letters with all the variations of LOR requirements for the different schools? You can only upload 4 letters, correct? I know there was talk about that changing for this cycle but it did not seem to be the case.

Also, does it tell you on the application what LOR's are needed or do we have a list on here somewhere? I did a search but didn't see a list from Doc 😀.

If you use up the 4 letters then I do believe you mail the specific schools the third letter. As for the LOR's I used this link to help me out

That list is from 2010, is it still accurate?

It's pretty accurate from what I've seen. The schools that I've been looking into applying have the same requirements on their site. Thats roughly 10 schools so I guess it's still accurate from my perspective?
