I have returned back to school to finish prereqs to apply to medical school in the near future.

I'm just taking some classes part time while I work full time to slowly make my way there.

I'm taking an mid-level biology course this semester and we just had our first exam. I didn't do so well on it, about a C-. The catch is that I'm not out of the dumps, I can actually pull off an A, but it will take near flawless work on my part. Which, of course, I'm willing to do.

I'm just a little afraid of the risk factor; a little uncertain about any potential slip ups in the future that would screw my chances to get an A.

Basically what I'm asking is. Do I push it to the limit? Or, should I save face and return next semester with a fresh start?

Here's another thing I'm wondering. I don't get a refund on the money if I drop the class. But I'm not sure what's worse. Losing out on money I already spent, or working my face off and still unable to get a decent grade.

Thanks

That would be worse than lost dollars, much worse. Having been where you are, I wish I would have dropped out instead of trying to recover after a bad first exam.

I suggest you'll need to start slower - take a class or two, math/science at a community college. Learn how to study and get A's in hard classes. Go at it like your career depends on it, which it does. Getting through the prereqs and the MCAT and then med school and boards is going to be excruciating without the study skills and test taking skills you need to make it through hard science.

Best of luck to you.

I would drop rather than take a W.

I would take a W rather than potentially get a C or B.

Since I *have* gotten a single C+ in college then retook the class and got an A, I will say this:

Drop while you still can. That C or B will forever be in your GPA for MD schools.

There's no do-over in med school.... there is in undergrad. Take advantage of it.

Sigh. It just seems like a lose lose situation. I guess I will try again next time.
