Hi, I am new to this site and would like some advice. I took calc BC last year as a senior in high school and did not take the AP test. I know that some med schools recommend/require a year of calc. During the summer, I am taking calc 1 over the summer through a cc online to get ahead and plan on taking calc 2 through the same cc online to save money (and, thus, allowing me to pass the 19 quarter hour limit...I will have 19 hours next quarter already, not including calc). Would this look bad to med schools? I am not doing this to get an easy grade, but because if I don't I would have to wait until sophomore year to take calc..... Any thoughts? Thanks! I do plan on taking stats and linear algebra at least at my home university! 🙂

Math and English are fine. Try to take your sciences (bio, chem, orgo, physics) at a 4 year college.

oh, ok. Thanks for the info! I will definitely take all of my sciences at my private university! 🙂
Any one else have any thoughts?

Try to leave all the science pre-reqs for the university. Calc should be fine at a CC.

ok, thanks. Just to make sure, is it ok or not ok if it is online?

From what I understand, provided you do upper-division work in mathematics at your home university and do fine, no-one will care where you did your Calculus. Plenty of people do 60 credits or more at a community college before transferring to regular university. I think it's more of an issue for people who end up trying to do GPA repair or an unofficial post-bacc at community college after graduating from a four year institution - that looks like you're trying to take advantage of the easier classes and general grade inflation at the community college level.

Thanks again guys!
Time is coming for me to sign up for the calc 2 class and I am still nervous that it is online and would reflect negatively when med schools look at the class. Any other thoughts?

They might ask why you took Calc at cc, just be prepared to answer without saying "cuz it's easier duh." It probably won't be a problem though.

ok. And do you think that it is ok if it online?

I have no idea. I'm guessing that adcoms tend to be more "conservative," so maybe they'll frown upon the new-fangled internet classes. It also might not show up on your transcript. I would talk to an advisor about this.

Ahhh, I see. I actually called up the cc and they told me that it is not specified whether or not the class was taken online...
