😕 I have a sister who has applied to dental school this year, shes feeling a little down. Im sure shes going to get in, cause shes dedicated and smart. We all know that doesnt matter at times, and number is what they see even though someone has a lot of effort. All the time she calls the schools they just say her file is under review. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? She applied in November, with a AA 17, TS 18, 16 PAT and her gpa is 3.3 Science GPA. I mean what can she do, do people get in with these scores I mean they are good. Her gpa overall is much higher. Shes not working in a dentist setting right now because she has 18 credits, but shes a good student. Help, I really want her to get in, cause I dont want her to go through a long wait what can she do, any tips advice. I know take over the DATS and increase is the obvious, any tips on which was the best guide to increasing your score, she did KAPLAN.

The biggest problem with your sisters app is she applied so late. As for what she can do now, realize another year is not the end of the world. In fact she will be able to relax, get a job, and apply early this next time. An early application would be June submissison. Even if she doesn't retake the DAT before June submission, she should send her old scores, this way her application is complete. Re-take the DAT in July and she will be in better shape. DAT ACHIEVER was helpful and TOPSCORE. These are programs that simulate the real DAT. I'm a late applicant too, I have a 3.9 sci, 19AA...blah,blah,blah. I haven't been accepted anywhere yet. Admission Committees can't wait to fill there seats, therefore being a late applicant puts you at a disadvantage. The idea of having to reapply doesn't seem like too much fun, but a whole year to do whatever I want...that sounds fun. Good luck, she still could get in, it's not over until...ummm, May 15nish, when it's time to reapply.

i'm not sure if I uderstand correctly. You say she has 18 college credits so far? Most dental school requires at least 90.
Besides from improving DAT scores, she should also apply VERY early, typically around mid May - June. That shows the dental school she really care about getting into dental school. Apply in November is way too late.

I'm pretty sure the OP meant 18 credits this semester. She had to finish all of the prereqs to apply and that alone is 40+ credits...duh!

I don't want to sound discouraging, but at this point in the game, if your sister has not interviewed, there is a good chance of her not getting accepted anywhere. Several schools have already filled their seats. I think your sister may need to get ready for next year's cycle. If she doesn't get in anywhere, make sure she submits her aadsas application as soon as possible(preferrably whenever they allow you register). I think applying in November definitely did hurt her chances. She has a competitive gpa, but her DAT scores need to be a little bit higher(that's just my opinion). As for studying for the DATs, what sources did she use besides the Kaplan book? If she hasn't already, I would recommend obtaining Shaum's Outline for Biology and Topscore exams. Also, since she did take Kaplan, the subject tests provided by them were extremely helpful as well. Of course, whatever I just said is just an opinion and also I haven't been accepted anywhere, so what would I know on how to be competitive. Good luck

With a 3.3 Science GPA, she at least needs a 19-20 AA and TS. That's just my humble opinion and the pattern that i've observed this cycle. The averages have been ridiculously high this year.

Thanks for the info, def helped.
