If I have a prescription for
sphere-175, cylinder -.50 and axis 125
and my next presciption is for
sphere -325, cylinder -100 and axis 170

how far can I see right before I get the new prescription filled?
what do these numbers actually mean?

Are those prescriptions for the same (or both) eye(s)? It just seems a little weird that: a) your sphere would go up by 1.50 (unless it's been a pretty long time since you got your original prescription), and b) your axis would change so much.

What is the difference between OD and OS?

od = right eye
os = left eye

oh these numbers are for the right eye

yeah, like r_salis said, you're Rx couldn't possible change that much over the course of a year so unless you haven't been to the optometrist in like 10 years or something. you're nearsighted and have astigmatism. means your eyes are whorped like a football rather than perfectly rounded like a basketball, that's why you need the cylinder and axis to bend the lights. probably be wearing toric lens if you wear any CLs. well, that's my little scope of knowledge, i'm not an OD yet. hope it helps some 😉

It is difficult to answer questions like yours without seeing your entire exam. Your prescription could easily have changed that much in one year. Its not usual but it is possible. If the above Rx is accurate I'm sure that your glasses, at least with the right eye, were not working real well. With a change in axis (astigmatic correction) like you had one thing considered by your doctor would have been some type of corneal change - disease, degeneration, or other such problem. It could also be that you misread one of the prescriptions. It is easy to mistake a 2 for a 7.

You should really express your questions and concerns to your optometrist or ophthalmologist.

as was suggested in this posts,
ask your optometrist about it and get back to us with the answers.
I'd be curious to know what you you report back to us....
