i'm currently finishing up my 2nd year of biomedical sciences at waterloo university in canada. i'm still not 100% sure as to what i want to get into, but the dental field intrigues me.

my 1st year average was 75 and now in 2nd year is 83 (not sure in gpa). my only extracurricular activities have been volunteering at the local hospital since January as well basketball intramural (if that even counts lol).

other than the pre-requisites and DAT, what would have a major impact on my application to dental school? i'm also worried that i'l end up graduating with a bachelor of science and getting nowhere...🙁 i tend to over analyze a lot of things and am rather indecisive.

in terms of gpa, you would have to convert the letter grade you received into a gpa score and average out all your scores. ie A- is 3.7 and etc
i forget what the scale looks like but i'm sure you could google a GPA conversion scale and do the calculations on an excel sheet

after GPA and DAT, another important thing to do is shadowing a dentist. although it's not always advertised on the schools' websites, it is expected by most schools that students shadow a dentist.

most people do about a 100 hours of shadowing to show the admission committee that you know what the field is like and understand what you're getting yourself into

research is nice but not required. it could be something you might be able to talk about during interviews. but definitely not necessary for admission.

obviously having a lot of extracurricular always help.
