Alright guys, Im new to the pre-dental world. I need some advice. Just to let you guys know, I was pre-med up until 6 months ago. Based on my academic performance, I only got one interview to med school, but I was accepted. However, I changed my mind and decided that I want to go to dental school. I know that many of you are excellent students and know every detail about the admissions process and what it takes to get into dental school. That is why I am coming to you guys for help. Let me give you a rundown of my "stats".

Graduated from Washington University in St. Louis
Economics Major
GPA: 3.0
Science GPA: 3.1

DAT Academic: 19
PAT: 18
QRT: 21
RC: 21
Bio: 17
GChem: 17
Orgo: 19

I have pretty solid extracurriculars and feel that if I can get an interview, I can sell myself pretty well. The only problem is that I dont know if the schools out there would be willing to give me an interview. Im extremely busy with work, so I wont have time to retake the DAT (Although I probably need to). What schools out there do you think may decide to give me an interview? I really just want to get into 1 dental school so that I can get the party started. Just one. Thats all I ask. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try and look into some private schools. There is a thread somewhere in I believe predental or DAT DISCUSSIONS that shows the avg GPA and DAT of all the schools in the nation. If I find it, ill post the thread here.

to Rezdawg:

If your state of residence has any state-funded dental schools, you should apply to those as well in addition to the private schools Croco mentioned. With the exception of certain schools with a national focus such as UMich, State dental schools usually give preference to in-state applicants.

What made you decide to turn down med school if you don't mind me asking? (just curious.)

I had the opportunity to work with an oral surgeon. That basically changed my mind. Plus, dentistry allows the health care practitioner to have a balanced lifestyle...work hard, but still have time to enjoy other aspects of life. My father is a physician. At the age of 70, he still works about 70 hours a week. He's missed out on a lot. Dentistry fulfills my desires of providing healthcare, while at the same time, allows me to fulfill the other desires in my life.

OK.

Will you be trying for the 2004 cycle or the 2005 cycle? If you are going for Fall 2004 admission, best move smartly and get your application stuff in pronto.

HTH!

Im going for the 2004 cycle. I should have everything in within the next 2 weeks.
