Hello,

So I need some quick advice on a situation that I will be in soon. So am applying this upcoming cycle, cGPA 3.6 and sGPA is a 3.4.... However, I am completing a post-bacc (16 CR now and 8 CR in Summer 1 session). After this semester I am guessing my sGPA will be around a 3.46. I am taking 2 classes in a summer session that ends June 28th, and these classes will get my sGPA above 3.5 (I have a very strong upwards trend of grades and am hoping to top it off by getting above 3.5).

I know that the app cycle opens on June 1st and I want to submit as soon as possible. I am nervous about waiting for these two grades before submitting my primary because they won't be in until about July 1. How disadvantageous would it be to wait for these grades to come in and submit July 1 compared to June 1? I will pre-write a lot of my secondaries so I will have them ready as soon as possible.

Thanks SDN!

Are you sure you will be able to submit on July 1st? Getting your grades will take time... and also you have to send your transcripts... and they will have to get verified which will take significantly longer in June than in July. I'm tempted to say just send your app first and update the schools later. Other people can probably give better advice though.

My grades will be released July 1... I will be able to send in my undergraduate transcripts early but will send in the transcript from my post-bacc as soon as those grades come in.

Would really appreciate advice from some adcoms @Goro @gyngyn

Grades might be available July 1 but lots of schools only update transcripts etc at the end of the summer term. I took 3 classes one summer and was done and had my grades by early July but the college didn't send an updated transcript back to my home college until mid August.
Anyway, AMCAS won't even begin the verification process until all of your transcripts are available. The longer you wait to submit them the later you will be. Check the thread from last year concerning verification times. See how long it took to get verified with a July 1 submission.
Have you taken the MCAT? What is your score.?
Have you thought about taking a gap year? You really only want to apply once with the best possible application possible. Give yourself every opportunity to be successful.

Your transcript will be verified with the information available at the time of submission. AMCAS is not going to re-calculate your gpa with grades submitted after verification.

Once your grades are released on July 1st, you have to send a copy of your transcript with these grades included. Then you have to wait till AMCAS receives this new transcript. Also, lets say if it gets sent to their office on the July 5th, this does NOT mean you will be put on line to get verified on July 5th. Since they get thousands of transcripts, on July 5th, they may just be opening the transcripts they received on June 20th. Once they finally mark your transcript as received, then you will be placed on line to be verified. It could be another 3-4 weeks after this point to be verified.

To put things into perspective: I submitted my AMCAS primary application on 6/5. Sent my transcript on 6/6. They marked my transcript as received on 6/19. I was verified on 7/11.

With that being said, I would not wait for your summer classes to submit your primary, ESPECIALLY since it is such an insignificant change to your GPA. Submit your application with those grades pending, and when you do get those grades, update the schools with them.

I took the MCAT on Feb 3rd and I am awaiting results... pretty confident in 512+ (hopefully 514). I was planning on posting in WAMC for school lists once I get my official score.
I have thought about gap year, but I will be taking one next year during the app process. I know it can be only beneficial but I do feel like I am ready to apply this upcoming cycle.

So I guess my main question is from an adcom perspective, how much different is a sGPA of 3.47 vs 3.51 .... To me it just seems psychological that a 3.5 is significantly better

It wouldn't make much difference where I work.

So the consensus is to not worry about these 2 classes and submit 6/1 even if I am as efficient as possible with sending it in/pre-completing my secondaries?

An early well written application is more important than a few hundredths of a point.

One more thing: I was looking into information for the committee letter from my program and they said that all classes must be completed (Summer 1 included) and that the letter will be completed by end of July/early August. Therefore I can not be completed until most likely end of July/early August.... is this disadvantageous? And if so if this is the case would it be worth waiting for those grades to come in

If your committee letter will be delayed pending these grades this discussion is moot. Pre-write secondaries and do the best you can.

When is the latest I can be verified by and still feel comfortable about the timeframe..... mid-august?

Applicants from Brown have to wait until September for a committee letter. It's not ideal, but they get through somehow...
