Need some suggestions for the upcoming application cycle

hi.. I believe I don't stand a chance of getting in this year.. I had my interview at BU on Feb 12th and haven't heard from them since.
Just wonder what should I do for the next year to increase my chance of getting in? And which school should I apply to?

A biochemistry specialist at UT

This is my stat.
CGPA ~ 3.03
BCP GPA ~ 3.27
Sciences GPA ~ 3.19
Master GPA = 3.5

about 114 hrs of dental volunteer experience.

im not sure if there is anything you can do about the GPA?

how many schools did you apply to? i think you should apply to around 20 schools?

check www.predents.com or the ADA book for statistics of each school. apply to schools that have similar scores as yours.

you DAT looks good to me, sorry but i dont know anything about the chalk carving. 16 might be a bit low?

you can beef up your ECs. there are a few other threads that talk about ECs. you will have to search for them.

Well, next year apply June 1st. Your DAT seems fine to me as well. Don't retake it unless you KNOW you can do better!

The only other thing is to do more EC's, especially dental related. More shadowing too.

And lastly, apply to more than 15 schools. I know its gonna cost ya but the "shotgun" approach is kinda how it works nowadays.

Consider the private ones since they accept the Canadian DAT. 🙂

Apply EARLY, and keep following up with the schools. Sometimes you may think your application is complete, but some documents might have been lost on the way there.

you can if you want. if you are applying in june the schools probably wont see the grades of the classes you take now. they will see the grades during the academic update. but they will see what classes you "plan" to take. on AADSAS you can put planned and in progress classes.

i know UCLA requires psychology. i cant speak for the other schools. you will have to check their websites.

first year psychology is a one year course at UofT... which ends at April... and the mark won't be out till May.. I think it's too late.. =\

wow.........one year course. take it at another college or university?

i think you already know, but you dont have to complete all the requirements to apply. as long as you complete them before you start school.

You didn't apply in the first week it was open, most people here that got in could have told you that your odds were slim just by the date (think may not june--this is annoying but it seriously matters)

also improve everything you can a little by next year to show you have desire..

your dat scores look good but you prob already know that

need 3 more.. that accept Canadians..
and yea, I just got rejection from BU today.. so I am planning to reapply in May..

I am sorry to hear that.
I am planning to reapply this May too. this is my 3rd time.
You are not the only one who didn't get in this time.
I recommend doing whatever you can. For example, strengthen your personal statement with your passion & more EC with community service etc.
I could email d-schools and ask what to do and let them know you are eager to study dentistry by keeping in touch with them.
I know you will make it next time like me.

DoubleD you hit the nail on the head. "think may not june" that is the best thing to focus on.

I would personally set an artificial deadline of trying to get the application into schools by August or by September at the latest and try to stick with it. I feel this will get people motivated to get the stuff in early.
