I need to have a real talk here about possibly just accepting that I'm just not a competitive applicant. Sorry if this is considered a double post, I didnt include some important things in my life post and did not know how to delete it.

Whats counting against me:
-3.4 gpa (lower than i had thought)
-took 6 years to graduate (took several semesters off during which I did nothing)
-Only things I did during college were a summer volunteering at a hospital and a summer doing research (so did things only 2/6 summers, and 0/6 school years--no jobs, no EC's, no clubs)
-I will have retaken both gen chem 1 and gen chem 2
-I have a D on my transcript from my final semester in college
-I will not have finished all my prerequisites when im applying (which i assume is only "ok" if youre a strong applicant with good stats and a well rounded application)--I'll be one year out of college and still missing 4, maybe 5 prereqs when i apply

Pros
-i will be able to complete 100 hr volunteering and 150 shadowing before june
-i have 6 months to study for the DAT
-Hispanic female

Thank you guys. Again, sorry for double posting, I had a rough day and no one close to me to have a real discussion about this.

when you retook GChem, what kinds of grades did you receive?
did you add in both grades in GChem in your GPA?
was the D in a pre-requisite?
what is your science GPA? BCP?
you only need to finish pre-requisites before you start dental school

-i got a c+ in gen chem 1 when i originally took it, a b when i retook it. I got a c- in gen chem 2 when i originally took it (and i havent retaken yet, not sure I will be able to before application)
-i added the c+, b, and c- when i calculated my gpa.
-My sgpa (without the 2 courses im finishing now) is either a 3.32 or a 3.45 (depending on if 2 environmental forestry biology courses count towards it, their course codes are EFB so i'm not sure if they count as Bios). The lowest it could be if those forestry courses do count + i get B's in the courses im finishing up now is a 3.30.
-The D was not in a prerequisite, it was in one of those forestry ones.
-I have 9 prerequisites to finish, i will be able to get in 4-5 this spring before applying this summer.

you are NOT "just not a competitive applicant"
finish up your prereqs and volunteer/shadow, and do well on the DAT
you will be below average on some parts of your app, but you are nowhere near not competitive
take a break from reading SDN and FB, put your head down and do well
and have a great holidays...

Just to clarify before i get off SDN for a good while--did you mean finish up all 9 prereqs or just the 4-5/9 before applying?

And thank you very much--have a great holidays as well

finish up as many as you can in spring (especially the subjects that will be on DAT)
you will have to complete the rest before you start school

Update/finalized stats--gpa and sgpa are at 3.37 and 3.301.
