Hey!

Ive been preparing for step 2 for the past 3.5 weeks., Im almost done with UWorld and have read step2 secrets and internal med kaplan book. Anyways, so yesterday I end up taking nbme 1 and score a measly 180!!!...i have never felt more depressed in my life, I mean Ive passed all my shelf exams usually above the school avg, my uworld avg is 53%! wtf is wrong with me?! any advice would greatly be appreciated, my exam is next week and Im thinking about pushing it and going over uworld second time around.

what did you think of the diff. level of nbme1?
what are your thoughts on the kaplan IM book (08-09)?
and lastly, is secrets the only review book ur using?

How long did it take you to finish the IM kaplan book and how in depth did you go into it? It's very specific, so maybe you need to read it more in depth?

did you use anything else to study for the other subject areas?

As far as the shelf exams are concerned I passed all of them, my average was probably 70%, 66-75 range.
Kaplan book was great, I like the style it is written in and it was my first kaplan product I used, I read it in about 4-5 days.
NBME 1 seemed doable, I honestly thought I knew 50-60% of the answers and had a good hunch on the rest of them (one interesting observation was that I was below avg on psych on the nbme while on uworld thats probably one of my best sections)

if ur goin for a good score...def push it back...if ur just lookin to pass...take another NBME and reassess. If u get above 185.....study hard for two weeks....n u should be able to do it. THe USMLE self assesment is cheaper than the NBME n i thought was a good assesment...i got 191 on it...n took the NBME form 4 extended version a week later n got a 188..i was studying for 1 month and half....so i doubt my score was gonna sky rocket into the 240's....so i just looked at my weaknesses and studied those areas for the 2 weeks n took the exam last week.....i think i got through...
