We have two new threads in the mentor forum that will be of interest to those of you in the Pre-Osteopathic forum.

1. Questions and Answers about Medical Schools - This thread will be the home to answers from current/past medical students to the 31 questions from the AAMC. This will be a tremendous resource for students as they research schools. It will be for all medical schools - allopathic and osteopathic.

2. Writing Advice - We have mentors in this thread volunteering to answer your technical writing questions and provide feedback regarding short passages of your writing. This is not a thread for feedback on your entire personal statement. No more than 100 words per passage please!

Bumping.

Someone suggested that people are worried because there is a 100 word limit on writing critiques. This is longer than you think. If you have something you can't figure out how to phrase or something you really want to emphasize, our mentors can help you find a way to do it.

Here's an example of a 100-word passage (actually 92 words):

Few things in life are as rewarding and fulfilling as owning a pet. Whether it's a dog, cat, bird, or fish, the appeal is the same—years of fun and unconditional love. Indeed, pets can actually satisfy many of the things people crave most: companionship, communication, loyalty, and plenty of amusement. Perhaps that's why pets are so popular among the elderly and people who live alone. As human relationships grow more complex with each new technological gadget, the simple bond between a pet and its owner offers a refreshing and comforting reprieve.

As you see, that's a substantial paragraph you could get assistance with. Come and visit us!

Searching for answers? I got your answers!

Beginning Monday June 25, I will start a weekly series about common grammar mistakes and how to avoid them. Each week will focus on new errors and misunderstandings, plumbing the depths of our ignorance together, and hopefully finding the right answers. For those who need more incentive, think of it as a chance to gain insight into how we ought to be writing without exposing our ignorance to the general populace.

So, visit me in the Writing Advice Thread in the SDN Mentor Forum!
