So just like the endless abyss of posts that come right before the cycle opens here is yet another seeking the ever so soothing posts that you all provide here on SDN! 🙂

Background. Re-applicant. Applied to 11 schools last cycle. 2 Interviews no acceptances. App was complete super late (Aug). For this cycle I am wondering should I retake the DAT and sacrifice getting my app completed late and if my school list looks right.

Im not concerned with traveling across country if I have to for school because after all the end goal is to become a dentist and not to brag or boast about the school I went to. Ill have around 80 hours of dental shadowing, several EC's during undergrad and graduate and research experience.

Undergrad: Bio Major did undegrad research 3.32 GPA (blehhh yeah too much partying)
Masters: Mol. Bio/Biotech: 2yr research 3.89

DAT : I want to retake but I really dont want to risk getting my app in late (this was the hold up last year)
19AA,
Pat 19
QR 15 (ehh 🙁 ran out of time)
RC 26
BIO 17
Chem 18
OC 18
TS 18

I know the academics are a little on the low side, but I like to play that up with the balance of my EC's and Research/Work experience, my selling point here is my ability to be well-rounded haha.

List this time around. Do these look accurate?
ECU (state school)
UNC (state school)
Howard
Meharry
UMD
Nova
VCU
UoP
UK
Louisville

What do you guys think?

how do you score 17 bio when you've got a master's in molecular bio?

I took the DAT the summer of research in the field. Twas crunch time and I didnt study as much as I should. I often ask myself that question too.. sigh

Also remember how broad a subject biology really is, and how narrow research within a masters program can be..

I'm also scared to death in upcoming cycle with similar gpa. I think the 15 QR might be too risky, though it is the "least important section". Might be better off retaking..Is there a way to apply and then tell them the score will be updated?

Study a ton, retake the DAT, then apply.

EDIT: apply to the midwesterns, if I remember correctly they love applicants with MA/MS

Fellow NC resident :S I think you've got a great shot at ECU and UNC. Keep in mind that ECU wants dentists that are willing to work in the rural/lesser served areas of NC if it comes to that during interviews.

Retake DAT. August is not late and is not the problem. Your numbers are and they need to go way up.

Call the two schools that you I terviewd at and see if you can schedule an application review. Then ask them what are your deficiencies and what they suggest you do about it.

With that said, it's a little late to have it done, as there is not much time to do anything about it unless it was a bad interview/ personal statement.

Good luck
