Hi guys,

This question is specific to NEOMED, since I want to apply there.

However, it's also a general question regarding Biochemistry.

Is Analytical Chemistry something we have to take in preparation for Biochem.?

Can we take Introduction to Biological Chemistry or some variant of that course - and then eventually take Biochem. courses?

Or is P. Chem/Inorganic Chem. involved somehow?

I've taken OChem. I & II and considering changing my major to Biology.

I would love to skip Analytical Chem. plus the horrible lab.

The lab for analytical is actually the better part. But anyways, the NEOMED program does not require analytical/p-chem. Usually those are substitutes in case an institute prefers you to replace upper lvl chem courses for AP transfer credits. I didn't take p-chem b/c that is the class where you start unlearning all of your basic chemistry coursework (which is supposedly when chem majors actually feel like they are chem majors). As in, you will be told how your periodic table trends have been taught all very so incorrectly and that p-chem has a better explanation that washes away prior chemistry knowledge.
Skip Analytical at best. A lot of the mass spec and other type of machinery used to analyze proteins/fats/chemicals will be explained in the book anyways as a review. You have the only important chem courses complete (which are organic I and II --> these will be very useful when trying to understand why proteins and other groups react the way they do).
