I know last spring there was some buzz about neonatology fellowships going to a match process. I tried doing a search, but have not found much.

Any news?

Actually, I do know that they are going to a match, but I can't remember which application cycle will be the first.

I'm not in the loop on this. It is going to happen, but I believe that you are correct and the first group is the entering fellows of 2009 (i.e. this years PL-1 group). I don't know if this has been finalized and approved yet so it is possible that it could change.

More generally, I would comment that it is LONG overdue and will be beneficial to both applicants and programs.

I can confirm from my highly placed source that 2009 is the definite start. Some programs had already accepted applicants for 2008 by the time the program directors voted so it had to wait until 2009.
