Does anyone have any info on neonatology? What does the job entail? What's typical call in an academic hospital?

You might want to search out the 20 or 30 threads on this in the last couple of years.

Night call is nearly forever in neonatology for rather obvious reasons.... In an academic setting it often is 2-5 times/month, increasingly this is in-house call in both an academic or private practice setting. In some private settings, some version of shift work is possible, although often it consists of an x number of weeks "on" and then "y" number of weeks completely off type of schedule rather that usual 8-24 hour "shifts". In academics, true shift work is uncommon, but it is more common to only be working on the clinical service a limited number of months/yr, which can range often from 2-10 depending on one's research/funding/other responsibilities.
