There is a new pharmacy school in Ohio slated to open fall 2007. Its called North East Ohio Universities College of Medicine (NEOUCOM). I wanted to know if any of you are applying. I hear its supposed to be the Ohio version of LECOM. Let me know if any of you are applying🙂

Yes! I plan to apply next fall (for 2008). Finally, a college of pharmacy that is outside of the southern and western part of Ohio! I'm not sure if it will be the Ohio version of LECOM. Isn't that a 2+3 school? NEOUCOP (their college of pharmacy's name) will be a 4 year program requiring 72 hours of pre-professional coursework before you can apply there.

I have some info for this college. This school will have 75 seats each year. However they will select their students from 4 colleges. They will select 15 from Cleveland state, 15 from Kent state, 15 from Akron, 15 from Youngstown, also 15 from anywhere else. It sounds like a good program tho. I am pretty sure of this info, i have talked to one of the representatives at Cleveland state. Hope this helps. 🙂

Did you apply to the school.

Just wondering if there are any students out there currently attending NEOUCOP. It will probably be the only school I will apply to because I could commute from our current home rather than moving. (30 minute drive) We want to keep our son close to family, especially since they will be the ones caring for him while I am at class.

Anyways, I am a student at UA and I am just starting out with the pre-pharm program and looking for insight from anyone who is actually attending NEOUCOP.

Thanks!

I have just been ACCEPTED to NEOUCOP for Fall Semester 2008. I applied Early Decision. Yes, they only accept 75 students, with preferential treatment being given to 4 consortium universities in Northern Ohio. I don't know the information on LECOM, but I believe this school to be the model of future pharmacists as practitioners on a medical team. This is a four year school which emphasizes the importance of medical and pharmacy students working together.... so much so that they take many classes together. They have a NEW pharmacy lab, and the school is in a good location. Apply EARLY if you want a good chance!

Just got an interview for Nov. 30th... if your curious.. i'm not from Ohio...

I am actually really excited about the school. At first I felt a little "tied down" by wanting to stay local, but the more I read about NEOUCOP the more I look forward to going there.

There is a pharmacy student info-night 2 weeks from tonight that I am going to with my husband. I am looking forward to seeing the campus!

Anyone have an interview at this school yet... I have my interview on Nov. 30th and was wondering what type of questions they ask for the interview... any help would be appreciated...

Sorry, I don't know anything about the interviews.

I did go to their open house last night. It was my first time on the campus and it was very nice. My husband and I were very impressed, especially with the labs! Everyone was very friendly. My visit left me feeling two things:

1. I REALLY want to go there. The fact that it is close to my home is now an added bonus rather than the deciding factor.

2. I am really scared. :scared: There were a LOT of people there last night. A lot of them looked like high school students or college freshman and were there with their parents. I am guessing a pretty substantial percentage of the people there will choose a different career path. One of the speakers mentioned that they have already received 300 applications for Fall 2008, though. They only accept 75 students per year.

Something about seeing my "potential" future competition really hit me last night. It gave me that last boost of motivation I need to finish out this semester and to move on with the classes I have yet to take. Bring it on, Spring 2008!!

wow i didnt know this was a new school.. anyone going feb 4? and where is everyone staying at?

I am currently a student at NEOUCOP. I like it here and I would recommend it to everyone. It is an intense program because the pharmacy students take a lot of classes with med students starting the 2nd semester. This means the classes will be very detailed and require lots of study time. For this reason I would recommend this school especially to those who are interested in clinical pharmacy.

During the first semester you will do practice interviews of patients and you will get pharmacy experience early, starting in January of the first year. The faculty is very accessible and supportive and have already made some changes for the next class based on our suggestions.

Hope this helps.
