I am retaking the NERB crown prep portion in August and would like some advise on the grading criteria. I was surprised to find the teeth to have a pink inner layer on the practical exam😱 Does anyone know how this affects the grading of crown preps? Do the examiners want to see the pink layer or not? In some preps, but not others? Please help.

DO NOT ASSUME PINK = DENTIN. The reason why those teeth are colored is that the examiners know that it is their tooth not something you hid in your pocket and changed.

There is lots of room for error on the prosth portion, so follow the guidelines in the manual. You don't have to bevel, but if you bevel on tooth for the bridge you will have to bevel the other tooth. I didn't bevel and left beveling if I ditched the margin. Be 1 mm above the gingiva. Use copper bands to isolate teeth and no nick adjacent teeth.

Good luck,
