Hey folks,

The title says it all lol, but for real though, I had a great GPA for all of my quarters throughout college (4.00, 3.92, etc), but due to a family emergency, I was unable to really keep up with the increasing workload of my upper division courses during my last quarter of college and so my grades suffered. I ended up passing my classes getting a C in some of my courses. I had a chance to explain it briefly in my secondaries, but surprisingly my interviewers never brought this up.

For context, my cGPA and sGPA are still about 3.8X and an MCAT of 517. I have received 2 II so far, but I am nervous that the committee would reject my application if they see that I was not able to perform well in my upper division courses during one of my worst periods of time in my life. Am I overthinking this?

You are overthinking it. They would not have invited you to interview if they felt your grades were not compatible with success in medical school. Also worth noting your interviewers may or may not have had access to those grades/essays prior to meeting you. Frankly, when I review applications if I see a 3.8 I'm generally not going to dig through the individual classes to look at specific grades anyway. Not worth stressing over at this point.

Welcome to the forums.

We don't have your application profile, but it's more than just your grades. Hopefully you did well in one of those interviews. Otherwise, I agree that you are overthinking.

I can't suagr coat this: No admissions person will f**ing care. You could have Fs in your transcripts, but if you shown that you can handle med school, the those get overlooked.

So chill. Any bad bad greade is not a reflection on your character nor a judgement on your value as a person.

Thank you for your insights! I thought so as well and I felt as if the interviews were super conversational and I really enjoyed getting to know the interviewers better, which made me appreciate the school a lot more

On average (grade point AVERAGE), you did fine. The MCAT was more than fine. Did you have a place on the secondaries to describe the difficulties you experienced? That can get taken into consideration if anyone wants to dig into why things tanked a bit in your final semester.

You've gotten two interviews which is more than many people can say at this point in the cycle (or in the entire cycle for some folks) so chill and don't worry about a couple of classes that subtracted about 8 grade points out of 480 or more. Small potatoes in the scheme of things.
