Nervous and wondering if I should call the PD.

So I had a really great SubI experience at a program, got honors, and interviewed with the program director, who told me he was very interested in me. This is my number 1 program. Now im nervous since the match is coming up. I tried emailing him letting him know that it was my #1 choice, but havent heard back. Dont know if I should call as well? Or is this being annoying. I heard from a friend that the program called her, granted this was for a prelim position to find out if she was ranking them. I havent gotten a call, but I also let them know myself they were my number one.

Should I call? Or wait it out and hope for the best?

Honestly, that's all about you can do. The waiting game sucks, and while waiting, millions of negative thoughts flood one's mind. It's human nature to always expect the worst.

It sounds like you've done everything you've can. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but it's certainly the best advice you will hear from anyone here -- just SIT TIGHT.

Sending more emails, mailing thank you cards, and especially calling the PD is overkill. Despite what comes to mind, it often reflects one thing only -- DESPERATION. When I was a medical student, my advisor told me to always BE CONFIDENT. And I have to concur in this situation. Be confident in yourself as an applicant, be confident that your interview went well, be confident that your interviewer was honest in telling you that he/she is interested in you. You already expressed your interest in them. Now it's just time to wait.

How long has it been since you e-mailed him? Some programs may reciprocate with an e-mail telling you how they rank you while others may not. It sounds like you've already done everything you could to try and secure a spot in the program (honored SubI, told them you would rank them #1). I would give him a little more time to respond for now, but calling or sending another e-mail somewhere closer to the time they formulate and submit the rank list probably couldn't hurt.

One communication ("you are my #1") is enough. Any program director will get the point. No need for more.
