Hello,

Once med school I was admitted to connects prospective students with alumni, by giving the email/other contact info. I was fortunate that the alumna I was connected to practices in the field I'm potentially interested in. However, I'm not really sure how to open the conversation with this person without sounding like a gunner. Anyone have tips/suggestions for how to contact the alumna without being terribly annoying lol?

Start by asking what attracted her to that field, without expressing your own interest in it and ask about her best memories of the med school. Just get to know her point of view. Later you can ask what experiences in med school best prepared her for her residency and what advice she might have for someone just starting out who is interested in her field.
