Hello,

I'm a second year, and after one year of class work neurology has piqued my interest as a potential career. I like the idea of working in an area with lots of emerging treatments and unsolved problems as well as continuity of patient care. Recently I met with a neurologist to discuss research possibilities, and he suggested that I might be interested in neurogenetics as a topic of potential research. I was just wondering if anyone here is involved in neurogenetics research or knows much about the seemingly small field. Any comments would be appreciated!

During undergrad I worked in the Neurogenetics Lab at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. The lab was primarily focused on Alzheimers and Parkinsons. Here's the
link to the lab I worked in. My former lab director was John Hardy, who since went on to become the Chief of the National Institute of Aging's Neurogentics Lab -->link.

I don't know where you are, geographically, but if you could spend a summer or at least a month with one of these labs, you'd be getting exposure to the field at it's highest level IMHO.
