I have to write a paper summarizing the field of knowledge on any topic from the field of neurology, neuroanatomy, or neurosurgery. Anybody have any ideas that would be really interesting to write about?

Multiple sclerosis is a good one, especially in light of Tysabri in the news - it had the most promise of any development yet for MS. So tragic, we actually had a glimmer of more hope for these patients.

Prion diseases are pretty interesting and the knowledge base isn't that expansive (relative to say, Alzheimer's disease) so it'd be easier to get your arms around. They may make you freak out though...I know my buddy studied them (just via literature) for a while and was pretty convinced he had CJD.

memory, anger management, mood control/disorders. They are some of the lesser known topics that i think are pretty interesting

If you choose anger management, you could cite that Adam Sandler film. I love doing stuff like that. For my honors thesis, I've got a citation to the Icelandic constitution which I'm particularly proud of.

Neuro (& psychiatry) is the last frontier of medicine.

How about everyone's favorite disorder fibromyalgia? Or pain disorders?

I read a book that dealt with OCD and neural plasticity just a few weeks ago that was really good, full of ideas on which you could write a paper.
