I am a 3rd year medical student interested in radiology although I'm not sure if my step I score (221) and lack of research, publicatipns, etc. will allow me to match into radiology. I am not trying to match into a competitive program but then again I would not like to move to the mid-west.

I know I need to take Step II early and score better hopefully.

If I match into neurology, how difficult is it to get into neuroradiology? I know some programs only accept radiology residents.

Thanks for your help.

Actually some places allow this.

However, you're not going to be hired by a private practice radiology group because there are too many general radiology films you can't read. Academic neurology is where many of these people go.

You can def. do INR via Neurology, in fact, the people Ive talked to say that the interest is now greatest in Neurology and that most applications are now coming from Neurologist for INR

not sure about plain Neuroradiology but if you are interested in doing some procedures you can get there from neurology, best of luck

If you like procedures, I'd definitely consider interventional neurology. Neurology is a very easy residency to get into, so you should have no problem matching into a good program.

Do you think I could match into radiology?

NIR can be entered via radiology, neurosurgery, or neurology.

From what I hear, most applicants are either radiology or neurosurgery.
