Our school uses a system-based curriculum and we're given 5 weeks only to learn all of neuroscience before clerkship! I'd like to know if this is normal? How much time did you guys get to study the neuro block?
So far I'm really falling behind and feel discouraged 🙁
while people who've done a neuroscience degree for 4 years prior are having a breeze....

Yikes! 5 weeks is very intense. We had 11 weeks for Neuroscience and Senses (a miserable 11 weeks I might add). It was the second system we learned our first year. In retrospect, I'm glad we have it out of the way so that we don't have to deal with it second year when we're getting ready for Boards. You might consider purchasing "Clinical Neuroanatomy Made Ridiculously Simple". It's a short little book (96 pgs) that hits on some of the high points. Good luck!

We also had 11 weeks, divided between neuroanatomy, neuropath, senses, and psychiatry. Best block in the organ systems approach IMO...

For the record, 11 weeks was rushed, so I can't fathom 5.

We did ours in 8 wks. All I can say is draw the pathways and representative brainstem sections (think where CN nuclei are) and SAVE them to refer back to as you get new material. A lot of my friends did not do this and blew tons of time going back to the atlas to review them.

We got six. It gets better, you just have to keep at it and at it and at it. I thought the brainstem was going to kill me. First Aid was good, High Yield was very useful, and Nolte's Atlas was good as well.
