Hey all,

Getting pretty worried, so I am applying to a few Neuroscience programs for my masters. Will this be frowned upon if this is what I decide to do for now? I still plan on doing research with clinical psychology populations while in my Master's (e.g. Schizophrenia, anxiety) and I'd be applying to Clinical Psych PHD programs once I complete the masters.

Just wondering if you can see any negatives... I'm just trying to cover my bases so that I don't get stuck for another year.
Thanks!

Well I don't really have any sound advice for you (but maybe over the next month or so!) - I did a Master's in Brain and Mind sciences (focused on PTSD for my research....but very neuroscience-y in coursework and orientation), and I've applied for a PhD in Clinical Psych for entry 2010. I haven't had any responses yet, so I'm not sure if my Master's is a hindrance or not (I have really solid GREs, GPA, research experience....). I'm hoping I didn't screw myself over....!

I don't have any experience in this area, as I'm graduating with my BA in May, and just got accepted into a Ph.D. program.

In my opinion though, I don't see how gaining research experience could really hurt you, especially if you are applying to clinical Ph.D. programs that emphasize research. An MA/MS just shows competence in graduate studies, unless if you do poorly of course.

On another note, the bulk of my research experience is in behavioral neuroscience (animal research) and I was admitted to a clinical program just fine, and a good one at that.

I say go for the MA/MS, I don't see how it could ever hurt you.

yeah i dont know what the deal is, I guess no one wants to take a chance on me (2 years in a row), but I haven't heard anything and I'm getting worried so I applied to a Neuroscience program and maybe another one soon too.

Did you apply to Ph.D. programs this year? It's smart that you're covering your bases, but don't count yourself out yet!

Hang in there :xf:,
