At my academic institution, the neurosurgeons make over twice as much as the CT and even many of the ortho surgeons. Also, according to the mgme data for this year, neurosurgeons are making way more than any specialty on average. I was wondering if this was consistent with other U.S. states and why that is?

What institution? Where are you getting your salary figures?

As with all things physician income: politics/RUC

Turns out that with the advent of LVADs and better heart transplant technique, the brain is now more important than the heart. You can't transplant a brain.... yet.

Well at my institution, many of the surgeons are making 1 million plus per year and they are primarily skull based neurosurgeons...not spine.

Does anyone know what the average CT surgeon (cardiac specifically)'s salary is (ballpark)? And I really mean average, since salary would fluctuate dramatically based on location, academic vs. PP etc. Found a bunch of different numbers (from ~250k to 600+) on sdn and other websites but was wondering if I could have any input from someone with more experience (residents/fellows/attendings perhaps?).

Also, while on the topic of salary, would anyone be willing to offer some insight regarding a very general "ranking" of salaries based on fields off general surgery?
Including: Cardiac, thoracic, plastic, surg onc, endocrine, breast, general, vascular, transplant, ACS/CC, colorectal, peds, bariatric (+ whatever else is out there).

Again, just talking about very general averages here, not the plastic surgeon in Hollywood or the one trauma surgeon in a 300 mile radius.
Thanks
