I guess I'll start by listing my scores.

sGPA:3.0
cGPA:3.1
Spring grades look very promising.

DAT:19AA:19TS:22PAT
Bio: 20

Dental experience: I stop counting a year ago

I am currently applying to several masters program, and I intend to apply to about 15 dental schools. To list a few: Western, both MWU, USC, ASDOH, NYU, and BU.

Let me know what you guys think.

the GPA is a little low. like you said, i would look into a masters program to raise your grades. I would also look into retaking the DAT, aim for 20+.

Make sure that your personal statement is proofread, as a few grammatical errors can decrease your chances of getting passed that first guy that reads it.

Good luck

Hey,

First, after this spring semester, what will your gpa look like? I was in a very similar situation last year. Here are my stats when I applied last summer.

GPA 3.36
sGPA 3.2

Bio 20
GC 20
OC 18
RC 18
QR 17

AA 19
TS 19
PAT 22

Our stats are fairly close. I applied to 14 schools like you. Interviewed at 2 instate schools and 1 OOS school. It's going to be a long process because we don't have stellar gpas... but you should be okay. Be confident in your interviews and show them that you have more to offer than others with higher gpas.

I was recently accepted into Boston University, and I'm waitlisted currently at an instate school.

Good luck and feel free to ask any more questions.

Thanks for the encouragement longhorn.

I think I can jump my sGPA to 3.05-3.07 and cGPA to about 3.12-3.13
Personally I think the most important thing for me this quarter is to finish strong and obtain an overall positive trend for the year.

Hopefully adcom will recognize my improvements and slightly overlook my subpar GPA.

I had similar stats, both gpa and dat score. Science gpa was a bit lower in my case though. 0 interviews haha. Doing masters now to boost my chances. Start considering such options if worst case scenario, you end up in my shoes. Don't waste time.

In terms of experience I've gone on a 6 week deployment with the US Navy to provide south east Asia with humanitarian services. I worked in the dental department, so alone from this experience I obtained close to 400 hours of volunteering. Besides that I also manage a free dental clinic (also volunteer work). I think besides having a low GPA, what hurt me the most was my late submission of secondaries... I started turning in my secondaries at the end of Sept. to Nov.

In my pre-dental society many of my friends have low gpas but did well on the DATs--22+. They've all gotten into great schools this year. I would recommend that you complete your application (primary and secondaries) asap, and postpone the DATs until you are confident that you can obtain 20+ .
