Hey guys, i'm a junior in high school right now and i think i want to become a physical therapist. I have been into bodybuilding a lot recently and have found strong interest in the science of the human body, particularly movement. Btw, this isn't something that i just randomnly picked, i'm sure i want to be a pt. I was wondering if you any of you live in CA and know of colleges with a kinesiology/exercise science major, I've looked on collegeboard.com and didn't find many colleges with those majors. Also, if you guys have any tips/advice it would be much appreciated.

CLIFFS:
-i want to become a PT
-don't know of schools with PT related majors(in CA)
-any tips/advice greatly appreciated.

i might have more questions later, i will edit this post

I'm not from CA, but I am also wanting to go to PT school and I am majoring in athletic training. If you can find a school in CA with an athletic training major, it could help you in the long run. You can get observation hours from physical therapy clinics for volunteer hours to put on your PT school applications while also using those hours as observation for the athletic training major.

To be honest it really doesn't matter what your major is when applying to PT school as long as you have a bachelors degree and have met the prerequisite courses- but either a kines/ exercise phy or AT background would be good starts.

Oh ok I see, i was also interested in learning about kinesiology/athletic training tho, and it would probably help, thanks for the help. If i was to do an unrelated major, would PT school be that much harder?

If I were you, I wouldn't major in exercise science or kinesiology. Both are worthless as majors without a graduate degree in the health sciences. If I were you, I would major in pre-med or biology, which will give you more and better options after you graduate. You might not like genetics and microbiology, but your knowledge base will be greater. Either that, or you can major in something totally unrelated and take the pre-requisites as electives. I'm a geography major, and one of my classmates is a philosophy major. Schools are looking for multifaceted students.

Well if taking a related major is really isn't that beneficial I was considering maybe an accounting type of business major. How much harder do you think pt school would be without takin a related major? Thanks for the input
