New, annoying debate thread?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Neither candidate really answered the questions they were asked. Just kept repeating the same canned lines. Both sides are terrible, still hope Trump wins because it'll be better for my job and my finances.
Regardless of both candidates being loose with words and one way more than the other, I’m interested in how a president will determine how folks in our tax bracket will benefit. Congress can’t get anything done unless it helps out lobbyists.

As I’ve generally seen it, upper middle class (docs) don’t get all the benefits from tax cutting policies. If the brackets were shifted up so 25% included up to $700k, then that’s something meaningful to me. Right now it feels like working more just means losing half my check.

She has almost 300 million followers and probably most are not bots
One of my patients purchased Europe concert tickets to see her 3 days in a row. Unfortunately they happened to be the Vienna tickets 🙁 I don’t quite understand the fervor over her music but she is savvy AF and I really respect that. The only new voters up for grabs are the younger generation who are eligible to vote in their first presidential election. If she makes voting look cool and Trump looks dumb, that’s a big deal.

she’s not a particularly good debater and she still skewered the buffoon

She was toying with him and had total control of the situation. She also managed her own demeanor, she just grinned and didn’t laugh out loud. Regardless of the substance of what was said, she dominated him and made him look weak, pathetic, and easily manipulated.

I actually think Trump won the debate because he had the last word. Trump enters these things with a massive handicap. He is not hindered by pesky things like telling the truth, decorum, or forming intelligible, coherent sentences. The bar for him has always been much lower than for anyone else. He can devolve into belligerent and unhinged rambling and it’s just shrugged off as Trump being Trump. The fact that the next day after the debate, we are spending time talking about some fringe Tweeter account’s claim about Haitians eating dogs shows you how Trump wins. Instead of discussing how unhealthy, old, and unstable Trump appeared last night, the media is wasting its breath on ridiculous social media claims about people eating pets and doctors murdering babies.

Kamala Harris, on the other hand, failed to define herself as anything other than “not Trump.” Yes, she is a woman and is able to grasp and explain the importance of women’s health as it pertains to abortion, but beyond that she doesn’t really have a central theme to her campaign. It’s probably not fair that we expect to have a better definition of her vision because we are holding her to a higher standard, but that is just how it goes with Trump. I think running with abortion being the only well-defined policy issue of hers is risky. It may come down to either Trump vs. “not Trump” or whether or not you have an overly pessimistic view of the world (Trump) or a more optimistic outlook of the future (Harris). Maybe people are getting tired of the vitriol, belligerence, and negativity that has infected our politics for the past decade, but I think outrage is such an addictive emotion that Trump was able to elicit just enough last night to walk away from that debate having succeeded in what he needed to do.

I watched 1 hr of the debate turned it off around 1015pm.

Just as expected.
Trump rambling.
Harris smirking.

Neither side did anything to sway anything.
Harris has no plan for the future

Trump has no real plan either. Just rhetoric.

We just have poor candidates.

And only thing was Harris was more coherent than Biden. That’s not saying much

Both candidates kept talking about the past. The past is the past. Let’s move forward. And moving forward involves neither of them.

I was popcorn-ning the entire time.
Truly entertaining… 😂🍿😂

While speaking with Fox News's Martha MacCallum, Vance said, "We admire Taylor Swift's music but I don't think most Americans, whether they like her music or are fans of her or not, are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity."

🤣🤣🤣 he must’ve missed the part that she’s a self made billionaire due to undying fan loyalty

The person out of touch here is himself..

I agree with just about everything you said except that I don't think he won the debate. BUT - that last word was important - you had 3-1/2 years to fix things and didn't. If he'd hammered that for 90 minutes instead of just the last two, he'd have done better.

She'll absolutely choke on Kamala's tax-the-rich plans.

That was probably his only good line. She could have easily responded that he didn't fix any of these things while he was president either, but he and the last word

She killed him on the opening statement. So which one is more important? Hard to say, a good opening can set the narrative right away.

No chance he won. He got hammered. He couldn't have done much worse and she didn't make any mistakes. Even fox news was pretty negative on his performance!

his handlers tried to tell him over and over to stick to substance and policy. He’s a child. He believes he’s the smartest so he’ll do what he wants.

She did as good as anyone could have hoped for. So far nobody has performed as well against him. He's like a drunken boxer on the debate stage, hard to handle his atypical style

I think some of that is a lack of overall general charisma. Only a few politicians have that quality (Trump had it in 2016, Obama, Bill Clinton). But she performed extremely well with general substance, delivery and strategy.

Is he ... somehow unaware ... that the guy he's running with was a billionaire[1] celebrity?

[1] I remain unconvinced he actually has a net worth that's over $1B. So much debt, so much bull****. If he's able to sell his Truth Social stock and fleece his cult (once again) maybe he'll get there.

Not only that, Vance himself got a ton of support from billionaire Peter Thiel

More than 350,000 people registered to vote from her link after Taylor endorsed Kamala. Dont discount that power if she sends a big voter turn out message. These are definitely people that wouldn’t vote otherwise. Taylor is talented, period. But like she said haters gonna hate
I’m sure Harris will try to raise my taxes - I’m very against that but Donald raised my taxes too- well he went along with Ryan’s salt deduction changes - it’s a choice of which finger to cut off

Taylor will choke if Kamala's tax-the-rich plan happens.

Have you seen clips of him saying the results of the debate? Saying some polls saying he won 90-10 and 80-20. What a friggin loser. Can’t even stand losing a debate let alone an election. A cry baby “ohh they are 3 v 1 only I got called out on my blatant lies”
