You guys are going to love this. Just got this email...🙄
------------
I am a romantic about the NHS (British National Health Service) I love it the NHS is not just a national treasure, it is a global treasure.
- Dr. Donald Berwick
Dear Dr. XXXX
Dr. Donald Berwick is the CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, a Clinical Professor at Harvard University, and President Obamas nomination to serve as Administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) - an organization that is going to have even greater power under the new health care law. In fact, it will be the second largest insurance program in the country.
You may also be interested to know that Dr. Berwick has done a considerable amount of work in the United Kingdom. In fact, he served as a consultant on the NHS Britains nationalized health system a health care system which he considers far superior to the United States health care system.
I know that we are in agreement that while the United States health care system is absolutely in need of serious reform that the socialized model of the United Kingdom is NOT the model we should be emulating.
To me there is nothing romantic about a government controlled system that forces dying patients to wait weeks and even months for care, rations prescription drugs, denies coverage to the sick and elderly and inserts itself into the doctor-patient relationship. This is where Dr. Berwick and I disagree.
President Obamas appointment of such an avid proponent of a failed nationalized health care system to a position of CMS Administrator speaks volumes about the direction in which our health care system will be headed if we do not act immediately.
Does the United States health care system need serious reform in order to address critical issues like access and affordability? Absolutely. But I have said time and time again that it is absolutely critical that the quality of American health care in the United States, the highest quality health care in the world, does not become a casualty in the war for access.
This is just one of the many reasons why I am hoping you will be able to join us at the PCRR Quarterly Consultants Meeting on June 30 in Washington, D.C.
Our meeting will focus heavily on the implications the recently passed Health Care Bill will have on your individual practices and the practice of medicine as a whole. Our Bill Analysis Task Force will be giving a report on the dirty details of the bill, including the new powers of the CMS Administrator. I need you in attendance so that you can personally gain a better understanding about the very real threats posed by the new health care law and so that after the meeting you can serve as a liaison, sharing that critical information with your colleagues.
So please, if at all possible, join us on June 30th so that we may engage in an open dialogue about the decisions currently being made in Washington, D.C. that will forever alter the quality of health care in the United States and what actions we can take together to affect and alter those decisions.
Yours Truly,
Congressman Tom Price, M.D.
P.S. I want to thank you again for your commitment toward working for responsible health care legislation and the commitment you show to your patients on a daily basis. I hope to have the opportunity to thank you in person on June 30th. So please, call (866) 534-3418 to reserve your space with one of my associates. Or, simply click here to register immediately.
