One of my good friends have recently passed her boards and will graduate in a few months. I would like to get her something to celebrate her passing/graduation/new job. However I am having a difficult time thinking of a possible gift for her. Her new job will be in a vet office that deals mostly with small animals (cats, dogs). I was wondering if you guys had any ideas?

Thanks, I appreciate all ideas!

To be honest, by the time they've finished their training... anything thats NOT to do with vet 😉

But really, there is no point buying them anything equipment wise, as pretty much everything they need they will already have, or will be supplied with at the clinic they work for.

So I think a good bottle of champagne is in order!

Chippendales.

Oh, and champagne, too.

My folks got me a lovely little silver keychain that said "WhtsTheFrequency, DVM" on one side and "Class of 2010" on the other. It's a bit gaudy for my keychain, but I keep it on my desk and it's pretty nice. Anything you can personalize, I guess. But yeah....try and keep the gift as non-veterinary as possible - an example like the above would be the most "job-related" gift I could handle at that point in my life, hah!

spa treatment/massage
vacation/weekend trip
gift certificate to her favorite store or for her favorite hobby
meal at her favorite place that she doesn't get too nearly often enough
accessory/lessons for the hobby she wants to start (I have a vet school friend that really wants to learn how to ride, but doesn't have time/energy during vet school....as soon as she has a job I plan on trying to find a place she can take riding lessons nearby.

I'm getting two awesome gifts from my parents that are vet related, but are very crafty. one is a quilted wall hanging made from my favorite vet school T-shirts (we have to dress appropriatly for clinics 4th year, so mom has already put dibs on my t-shirts) and the other is a hand embroidered vet oath wall hanging.

Agree with this sentiment. I know I don't want any more stuff to move with me. But gift certificates to favorite places to eat would go a long way.

Honestly, most new grads are broke! Anything practical would be appreciated, or something fun that they might not be able to easily afford. A gift card for something practical but special (an upscale grocery store like Whole Foods, Amazon, a favorite restaurant, a favorite clothing store, etc) or tickets to an event would be possible ideas.

My favourite gifts were the ones I used while working, not the non-veterinary things......a nameplate for my stethoscope, a coffee mug with a cartoon of a female vet and my name, and a nametag for my labcoat.
