New edition of Goljan Pathology

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
He then said "Well, the Goljan stuff is OK, but you know he teaches at an osteopathic school, and that book he wrote is really for osteopathic students and not really for medical students." It took everything in me to not laugh. Freaking ridiculous.
WOW. That's unbelievable. Haha, the ignorance of some of the older medical folks about DOs is pretty out there.

Big question here. Did those questions that were supposed to come with student consult ever show up on the website, I haven't been able to find them and would like to use them to prepare for an exam next week.

Also that professor is full of **** and their arrogance is everything that is wrong with medical school education. He/she probably feels entitled to **** on everyone else because anywhere else but the classroom no one gives a damn about what they think.

Thanks for any help you can give.

He's pissed because Dr. Goljan is a better teacher than him. As for rapid review being for osteopathic students, that is simply comical. It think there is only one mention of manipulation in the entire book (for thoracic outlet syndrome).

This is the understatement of the century. He discovered his own Hb molecule so he thinks he is big stuff.

I think he is jealous because our school consulted with Goljan on how to make our Path class better.

Well, it's somewhat comforting to know that others haven't been able to find the questions on the 3rd edition either 🙁 My boyfriend has 2E and the questions are up for that, but they load extremely slowly... Anyway, would love to hear if anyone figures out where to access the 3E questions (or notices when they are posted).

3rd Edition questions are not yet available, so you can do this in the mean time (email from our bookstore):

If you do not already have access to the 2nd edition’s questions, please call 1-800-401-9962. Tell the representative that you purchased the 3rd edition, they will ask for the code in your book and then will generate a code for you to access the old questions until the new ones are available. The new questions will not be available for a couple of months.

Thanks a bunch!

That's what I meant.

I have to share something one of our Path professors said (this is unbelievably ridiculous). I was asking him if he would be willing to write some practice questions for us (our first block is coming up), to which he replied "no" and that we could go to other sources such as Webpath, Goljan, ect. I told him that those were fine sources but we want questions in the way they are going to ask them. He then said "Well, the Goljan stuff is OK, but you know he teaches at an osteopathic school, and that book he wrote is really for osteopathic students and not really for medical students." It took everything in me to not laugh. Freaking ridiculous.

HAHA That cracks me up that STILL this prejudice exists between old timer MDs and their view towards DOs. I chose to come to OSU BECAUSE of Goljan! There were a lot of other reasons for choosing this program but I have wanted to be a pathologist for a long time. In my opinion, there is no one better in the entire country that you could get a pathology education from. On top of that, he is HILARIOUS and makes pathology a lot of fun. I have laughed to tears on many occasions in there! Not to mention getting all his board review goodies and lectures for free and being able to walk up to his office whenever having a specific questions or needing a concept explained! I can't believe there are people that don't come to class...
Ok, I will get off my soap box now! I just hope someday I live in a world where this stupid discrimination doesn't exist. How can "Poppie" write an osteopathic book when he is an MD? He's never learned OMM, he only teaches here!

Goljan comes to our school every year and does our board review course for a week. Apparently, he was telling everyone that his new one would be a significant improvement over the previous version.

Don't get me wrong, I like Goljan as much as the next medical student, but would you really expect him to say anything different?

After reading a decent amount of Goljan over the last semester, I have to say that I really dislike the organization in this book. The information is awesome, but the way he simply repeats facts for similar things (like, say, types of lipoproteins) without immediately offsetting them with comparisons or categorical statements ("all these do this except this one which does this other thing") makes everything run together in my head. Review books are hard enough to read without constantly having to go back to remember what distinguished each item. Not a fan.

Were the second edition questions different from the third?

If the 2nd edition also pulled questions from the StudentConsult Qbank then no. I haven't looked at the 2nd one only the 3rd but what did you think of the 2nd ones?

I don't know, I haven't done them yet; im not at the questions phase of my study plan. I have both books though so want to know if they are different from anyone that might know; the 2nd ed has 350 and they just appear on a form; they're on studentconsult.com i don't know if pulled from qbank.

I only own the 3rd edition, and I've only done a few questions online on StudentConsult, but from the ones I've done, I'd say they are very high quality, simular to UWorld.
