So RR Path edition 3 is hitting amazon.com shelves tomorrow. I've scheduled my test for 6 weeks from now. I've read RR (2nd edition, obvi) once and havent done much more than underline it.

So, question is: do I continue with 2/e since my test is coming up shortly, or would it be worth it to invest in the new edition? This book is only updated every ~3years, so there might be many pertinent additions.

I highly doubt it will make any difference in your performance. I did not use RR but did use BRS Path, and I used the older edition (bc I got it for free from an upperclassman). I did very well and could not be happier with my score. All the necessary stuff is there. Just think about it-- thousands of other students used the older edition and many of them did extremely well. Why can't you?

I personally would save my money and just use the books I have, esp with only 6 weeks left.

If you're the type of person who'd think about it for the next 6 weeks (I would be), you should get it. The 40 bucks is not worth the headache and "what ifs". You got 6 weeks bro, I say you should cop it 👍

I actually pre-ordered RR 3rd edition from Goljan and Amazon sent me an e-mail yesterday saying the release has been delayed and to expect my book anywhere from September 1-September 8. The Elsevier website says to call for availability dates. Barnes and Noble says that this book will be available on August 31, but you can pre-order now. FYI.

I don't dwell on book editions. I used FA 2008 for my step 1 which I did just a few days ago. I still didn't get my scores back, but I doubt switching to 2009 would have mattered.

IMO, being comfortable with the book for review in the last weeks is a much better advantage than the few newly added tidbits of information. Some new editions could almost feel like completely different reads, because some form of photographic memory will be disrupted in your mind. For example I ofter recall some facts based on how I remember their layout on the page were. Trying new layouts all over again would somehow disrupt that.

I don't know if I could explain it properly...

I just bought mine today and I have to say that IMHO it is no longer a review book but rather a big outline formatted text book....the pages are approximately 8.5"x10.5". It has a lot more high yield (blue text) margin notes, more schematic drawings, great pics (some old and some new). I am currently transcribing my notes from the 2nd edition to the new one. Ironically some of the information that I had written in the old edition is now in the new edition, so less transcribing. Overall I like it but keep in mind as far as size is concerned it's a "Beast" of a review book.

Its fairly depressing to me that I have no idea whats playing in theaters but that I have been waiting for this for the last month.

Would you mind tell me where you managed to grab the 3/e from? I am leaving the country soon and it would be great if I could purchase it before departing. Thanks!

I bought it from the bookstore at my school, which was a surprise because I thought the release date was tomorrow. The cashier said that the book had just been put out...early release I guess. Lucky me...:luck:

Well the last thing I need is for RR to be less of a review and more of a full on text. I think I'll be sticking to 2/e, thank you kindly.

Just checked our bookstore; it is on the shelf. The book is HUGE. Kinda loks funny next to all the other RR books as it's both taller and wider. I kinda flipped through it quickly and it looks pretty much the same.

I'm going to use the free library copy and add stuff to the 2nd edition that I feel is relevant/important.

i know what you mean about that layout in your mind, i have teh same thing. totally disrupted when i purchased fa 2009. when i was watching DIT videos i basically felt i was doing myself a disservice by not buying it and now i feel like its harder to recall or go over for teh reasons above.

I have the 2nd edition but havent really extensively used it...is it worth it to just get the 3rd and start using it before i start to transcribe and highlight the 2nd??

Scroll up to the top of this thread to see that I asked the exact same question. Then proceed to read the responses to get the answer to aforementioned question.

yo i dont know i havent read the new book but i talked to doctor G himself he said the new book has a lot more pictures and its good for step 2 and 3 its got management stuff but basically he said if youve been using his other book stick with it theres no real change in that regards hopes it helps

I confirm what was said above - don't bother buying the new edition if you already have one. I literally skimmed RR Path in like a day or so. Doesn't really add what isn't already in First Aid + question banks.

the second edition has so many pages, how did you people study for it? even if you read it from first to last, i am sure that you can't remember everything.

how many days did you spend on reading it?

i went through the book as i listened to the audio. Plan on doing it again in a few weeks.

The book looks scarier than it is. Break it down system-wise, and it goes by pretty quick. 2nd read is much much quicker than first, 3rd read even moreso.

Took a look at the new book and I must say that it has me hooked.

Seriously, if I were studying for the step again, I would get the new one. I like the size of the book and the layout better than the one I used to study for step. Only a few things are different but it feels like an easier read, even though the amount of info is the same.

How closely did he follow the 2e in his audio lectures? Im trying to follow the audio in my 3e and he seems to be jumping around quite a bit.

I've been using the 2ed and he does jump around, its not that bad though, i just pause and find the page then move on.
